“The music, spiritual worldview, and unique performance style of the Bauls can be especially inspiring to lovers of world music and Eastern cultures. Bengali baul instrument demonstrations, songs, multimedia, interactive workshops. Analysis of performance styles using video collections. The program lasts up to 50 minutes and so far has been presented at the House of Music in Budapest, the Hopp-Ferenc Museum of Asian Art, the French Institute, and the Mártély Open Gates Festival.”

The programs of KOTO Hungary introduce Japanese music, calligraphy, and in particular the koto — the traditional Japanese “zither” — occasionally drawing comparisons with other Asian cultures, or juxtaposing Japanese classical music with traditional Hungarian melodies. In these performances, I sometimes feature Hungarian folk flutes and folk songs, as well as Bengali (Indian) or Siberian songs as part of the group’s programme.

Under the name Burns Kati and Friends we perform authentic Moldva folk music and folk-jazz reinterpretations. Our shows are coloured by traditional tunes, archaic prayers, lullabies and ballads — mixed with the Dozmat deer song paired with Siberian throat-singing; lively dance-house music, and instrumental improvisations.

Burns Kati – vocals, flutes … and whatever else comes along
Kiss Gergely – guitar, koboz
Légrádi László – bass
